Chief executive sought on YouTube

A council in Norfolk is searching for a new executive on the internet by posting a video on YouTube.

"Summer is not the ideal time to recruit a chief executive," said South Norfolk Council leader John Fuller.

"Using new media like YouTube reaches more people. We want someone with a track record of significant achievement," he added.

The post has a salary of more than £100,000 a year and the successful candidate will manage about 430 staff.

The video shows Mr Fuller giving a tour of South Norfolk Council's offices and talking about the council's work, including its recent rating as "excellent" by the Audit Commission.

In a statement released by the local authority, Mr Fuller said he was concerned about "an employment merry-go-round for council Chief Executives taking each other's jobs at ever more inflated salaries".

He said he hoped the YouTube approach would encourage "new expertise and limit pay inflation for top staff".

Mr Fuller, who heads a Conservative-controlled authority, previously used new media in his own election campaign.
